Kids Matter Music Fest

Come out on August 21 from 2 pm to 7 pm for the Kids Matter Music Fest to enjoy the festive music of Mariachi Cielo and the rockin jams of the UZ band. 64 Gallegos Rd, Questa NM. (In the field across from the old La Cienega School and Gym Buildings.) Tickets are $7. KIDS GET IN FREE! This is an all ages, alcohol, drug free event. The Kids Matter Music Fest is a fundraiser to raise money to build a skate park in Questa. This event is also an opportunity to kick off Phase II of the Refuse to Provide Campaign. The Refuse to Provide campaign was launched by Vida Del Norte in partnership with several other entities around Taos county to remind adults to not provide alcohol to minors as it is unsafe. Phase II of this campaign is called “Redefining the Word Party.” The idea of this is to help to promote the idea that we don't need drugs or alcohol to have a good time.

Because this music fest is a fundraiser for the skate park, food and beverages will be sold during the event to help raise more money. Outside food and beverages are not permitted.

Please bring blankets or chairs to sit on and umbrellas for shade. There will also be some outdoor games like volleyball and cornhole for some extra fun.

Mariachi Cielo is a 4 piece group of musicians who have all been playing Mariachi for their entire life. The group consists of Martin Martinez on the Guitarron, Lisa Anglada on the Vihuela, Nikki Branchal on the trumpet, Katie Worman-Castillo on the Violin.

The Uz Band is a 4 piece, eclectic, award winning variety band from Taos NM. They offer music for all occasions: weddings, dances, concerts, festivals, nightclubs, quinceañeras, ect.

National Gaurd inflatable obstacle course

The National Guard is going to bring an inflatable obstacle course and some other activities to the Kids Matter Music Fest. It is not exactly like the one in the photo to the left but it is sure to be a lot of fun. There will also be other outdoors activities to use and feel free to bring any frisbees or outside games of your own!

This is sure to be a fun event. Please come out to enjoy the music and help our community raise funds for the skate park as we start to change our cultural norms while “Redefining the Word Party!”
This event is being brought to you by Vida del Norte and Rocky Mountain Youth Corps.

Tickets will also be sold around town in Questa and at the event. You can also call Maria Gonzalez at: (575) 779-2260 to pick up tickets at Vida Del Norte.

Vida Camp – Summer 2021

Back to Vida—Day Camp Open

Click Here to Enroll in Camp Today!

Vida Camp is back in 2021 with day camp running Monday through Friday, 9 to 4. The three-week camp is for 5- to 13-year old youth. Paying tuition is voluntary and enrollment is free to anyone. Sessions will run weekdays June 21st through July 9th.

New adventures happen each day, so campers are encouraged to attend all three weeks and those committing to the whole season will get first priority as the camp fills up.
After a tough year and a half, the summer of 2021 promises a joyful return to living life to the fullest. Summer camp is the place to make new friends, practice new skills, and take pride in doing good deeds in a fun and safe environment. Vida Camp explores our local watershed, foodshed and culture. Questa's very own day camp started in 2019 with building the Farmers Market site, and will reach farther into the community this summer.
The day camp is based at the Questa Youth & Family Center. From there, campers will be transported to local farms to learn and help out, or to hike by our scenic rivers to fish and play in the water. A wide variety of activities are planed from field games, to tying fishing flies, to digital photography. The one theme woven through the whole program is Questa's uniquely resilient lifestyle. Campers will team up to do rewarding work improving our community such as working on the acequias, harvesting produce for the pantry, and mural painting downtown.

Vida Del Norte Coalition, Trout Unlimited, Taos Behavioral Health, Questa Farmers Market, LEAP, and Casas de Culturas are among the many partners coming together to produce Vida Camp. Other entities or individuals who have knowledge to share with the kids, or work that needs doing locally are encouraged to contact Camp Director, Alejandro Avina @ vidacamp@localogy.org.

Vida Camp will have a high staff to camper ratio. Activities will be mostly outdoors and will follow State Covid guidelines. Space is limited, sign up today: www.localogy.org/vida , or call Alejandro @ (505) 297-9250.

April 30th Questa Park Tree Planting & Beautification

Celebrating Earth Day & Continuation of Community Connection Days

On Saturday, April 30* from 10 am – 2 pm, come to Questa Park to plant trees, beautify, and share your vision for the park’s future. All youth are invited, and adults too! Let’s come together in solidarity with thousands of other communities around the world to celebrate Earth Day this month and kick off our 2022 Community Connection Day series.

The day will include planting drought-tolerant trees, irrigation system repair, removing invasive plant species, trash pick-up, and brainstorming of park planning and improvements. Of course, a hearty lunch for volunteers will be provided midday. Progress on site is our goal, but more important is having fun, strengthening friendships, and amplifying youth and community voices to shape the future of our park (and beyond).

Bring a water bottle, hat and sun protection, and if you have them, work gloves, yard cleaning tools, and a shovel; we’ll have extra gloves (donated previously by Questa Lumber and Hardware) and additional tools on hand as well.

The trees we’ll plant on April 30 will be part of the Questa Park Memorial Grove, a community-sponsored effort through the Vida del Norte Coalition. Our goal is to plant seven more trees. Make a tax-deductible donation to sponsor a tree in honor of a loved one and come help plant it at the park.

Tree sponsorships with a memorial plaque are $140 each. Contributions of any amount are appreciated; donations of less than $140 will provide much-needed, overall support for the tree planting project, including irrigation system repair and maintenance. Donate securely by credit card online. If you donate by check, please make payable to Vida Del Norte with “tree project” in the memo. Checks can be dropped off at Questa Credit Union for Vida del Norte or mailed to: Vida del Norte, ℅ Maria Gonzalez, P.O. Box 1015, Questa NM, 87556. More info about the tree fundraiser, call Maria (575)779-2260.

The first Earth Day was celebrated 52 years ago on April 22, 1970. This holiday was created by US Senator Gaylord Nelson, to mark the importance of keeping our planet healthy and clean, and for people to renew their commitment to make positive changes in their communities.

Community Connection Days are collaborative, intergenerational days of community give-back and celebration, taking place in and around Questa. Each gathering is an opportunity to connect with friends and make new ones, to care for and improve our public spaces and envision together what we want for our community. The concept was born out of the youth-centered beautification day a year ago at Questa Park; six monthly Community Connection Days followed in 2021. This consistent coming together, community members showing up for one another and our shared public spaces, is part of ongoing, collaborative, community-wide Creative Placemaking efforts.

The April Community Connection Day at the Park is made possible by these collaborators: LEAP, Vida del Norte Coalition, Localogy, Village of Questa, Questa Economic Development Fund, Questa Farmers Market, North Central Food Pantry, Taos Bakes and many Community Volunteers. Funding is provided by Chevron Grants for Good through the Taos Community Foundation as well as individual tree sponsors and donors.

We look forward to beautifying the Questa Park with you on April 30th! Thanks to all involved for making this community effort possible. Next month, join in the May Community Connection Day in downtown Questa preparing the Questa Farmers Market and Visitor Center for opening Memorial Day weekend.

*Earth Day is on Friday, April 22, but in our community this is the day of the Questa Junior-Senior High School Prom. To enable as many youth to participate as possible, the tree planting and park beautification event will take place the week after Earth Day on Saturday, April 30th.
Information about Community Days can be found at: www.leapsite.org or by calling 575-224-9066.
